Mentorship

The Graffiti Art Programming Wall-to-Wall Mentorship Program is a two-tiered skills training initiative that engages artists at various stages in their career in a collaborative, hands-on public art project, resulting in the growth of a local, grassroots contemporary street art community and economy in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Studio 393 is open to youth 12-28.

Firstly, this program works with youth from central communities in the very early stages of their development as artists to voice their vision of what a community built around art and culture could and should look like via workshops in hip-hop art, music, and dance at our satellite program Studio 393. These workshops will be facilitated by a group of mentors, made up of professional visual artists, musicians, dancers, and curators, as well as a well-established lead visual artist. The outcomes of these workshops will then be interpreted by the visual art mentors, who will design a final set of images to be translated into a large-scale work of contemporary street art as well as musicians working with young performers to record professional tracks to perform at the final event, Nuit Blanche.

Coming full circle, a free, outdoor community event will be held showcasing the developed works of the youth from the original workshop. The showcase will be held at the base of the new artwork, celebrating the future of the contemporary street art community locally, and nationally.
