Patterns Collective

Patterns Collective, based in Treaty 1 Territory, in so-called Winnipeg, Manitoba is comprised of

members Chukwudubem Ukaigwe, Shaneela Boodoo, and Mahlet Cuff.

The collective was formed as both a response to the colonial frameworks present at typical art

galleries and to the social restrictions imposed due to COVID-19. Centered on the idea of curating performances via virtual platforms, their goal was to bring communities together by

connecting artists across colonially-imposed provincial and national borders.

They have curated exhibitions and symposiums for PLUG IN ICA, Gallery 1c03 and The

University of Manitoba’s School of Art. They have also been nominated for the Winnipeg Arts

Council RBC On The Rise Award.

Daina Warren

Daina Warren is from the Akamihk (Cree) Nation in Maskwacis (Bear Hills), AB.

She was awarded two Canada Council Aboriginal Curatorial Residencies the

first to work with grunt gallery, Vancouver BC (2000-2001) and a second

residency at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, Ontario (2010-2011). She

has a BFA from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design (2003) and an MA

from UBC (2012). Warren was awarded the 2015 Emily Award from Emily Carr

University and was selected as one of six Indigenous women curators as part of

the Canada Council for the Arts Delegation to participate in the International First

Nations Curators Exchange that took place in Australia (2015), New Zealand

(2016), and Canada (2017). Her recent accomplishments have been winning the

Hnatyshyn Foundation Award for Curatorial Excellency in 2018, Director of Urban Shaman Contemporary Aboriginal Art Gallery in Winnipeg, Manitoba from 2011 to 2022; and currently the Artist-in-Residence Program Manager at the Institute of Amercian Indian Arts as well as an independent Curator based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA.

Nestor Wynrush

Elliott Walsh (Nestor Wynrush) is a Winnipeg based emcee, singer, producer, and workshop facilitator. An artist of limited output but quality works. This first-generation Canadian taps his Caribbean roots to cook up an authentic pot-au-feu that can aptly be described as Winnipeg Rap with a dash of Red River x West Indian Soul. The regular day to day with a melange of thoughts exploring family, love, identity and accessibility weave between every rhythm. Ultimately, it’s sincere and unvarnished storytelling music.
