ABOUT / ARTIST STATEMENT

Fragments is a geometric mural designed for Emk Clothing's facade which reflects the in situ through multiple pieces of West Broadway's quarter : I was inspired by the singular architecture, Emk Clothing's activity with fabrics and the daily movement of the two sliding doors.

First of all, going around I was impressed by the peacefulness atmosphere and how time seemed suspended in the neighbourhood. I also noticed the distinctive architecture with all these small houses and their rooftops ornaments. As the main line of my practice is to work

with in situ, I choose to create an artwork with these triangular rooves shapes and build the four patterns based on some particular real corner rooves ornaments. Reflecting this time idea, slowness and shapes tacks was also meaningful regardless to Erin's practice as she creates handmade colourful clothes one by one. Side by side, these four rocks show a slow rotation of shapes and patterns which support this idea of movement also underlined by the sliding doors various position. Finally, choosing four different tones for the rocks was a wayto symbolize everyone can bring its significant contribution to make things go further.

* A limited edition of 10 prints was edited beside this mural. This foldable rock is sold at Martha Street Studio.
