2019 | Rural Mural Tour

BRANDON, MANITOBA

Presented by Brandon Downtown Development Corporation.
Dates: July 12 – 20, 2019

Mural Title: The Star Blanket Project (6th Edition)

The star blanket-inspired design speaks to his Métis heritage and engages with Indigenous communities hyper-locally and across the country. In First Nations’ cultures, star blankets are bestowed as gifts of the highest honour. The star blanket’s geometric representation of our ever-reliable morning star is intended to protect, empower, and give comfort and hope to those wearing it over their shoulders. The design commemorates and counties to draw attention to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit Peoples in all communities.

Since 2016, lead artist Kenneth Lavallee has partnered with Synonym Art Consultation to present The Star Blanket Project as a major programming element of Wall-to-Wall Mural and Culture Festival in Winnipeg. To date, five large scale murals have been installed along Main Street in the Downtown, the West End, and North End of Winnipeg.
