ABOUT / ARTIST STATEMENT

"I took inspiration from the Manitoba Flag, taking into account the Forks and the concept of two rivers meeting, I found the symbolism in the red cross to relative. With this version of the Manitoba Flag however, I wanted to break away from the cross and bring focus away from the old bison and onto the young with a splash of colour. To me this piece is about moving forward, about surrendering, and accepting that evolution happens through guidance that is a two-way street. At some point the teacher has to recognize that they are always a student, and that a mother or father at some point become the student to their own herd, their own calves, their own cubs, their own children. This piece is about acknowledging our history with respect as we move forward into the future."

Due to the location of the mural, under a railway that undergoes constant water erosian, The Forks South Underpass wall has become a rotating mural wall. Through the rotating mural program, The Forks supports a brand new mural (and artist fees) every two-to-three years.
