ABOUT / ARTIST STATEMENT

"Acknowledging that Winnipeg is on Treaty 1 land and one of the most Indigenous populated cities in Canada, for this public art project I aim to create a work of art to ‘reclaim’ space as well as imagery. For years the image of Indigenous peoples has been appropriated in countless ways. Advertising, clothing, product labels and children’s toys. By using the image of a plastic Indian toy, I will be claiming this image and to show the resilience of Indigenous peoples. I plan to paint this image repeated in a variation of colour schemes."
